There are storms in the Faewilde that begin with clouds.
And then there are those that bloom.
Torrentblossoms appear when the air has grown so heavy with weather that the sky can no longer contain what it carries. Their flowers open beneath gathering storms and drink deeply from the charged air until blossom and tempest become indistinguishable.
Then they pour.
No two Torrentblossoms inherit quite the same weather. Some unleash impossible snowstorms, while others call down rain that seems forged rather than fallen. Summer varieties can arrive swollen with heat and dust, and rarer blossoms erupt in colors so vivid that mortal storms would consider them indecent.
There are even Torrentblossoms whose strange hues recall the poisoned histories preserved by the Sios. They bear no corruption themselves. The Faewilde simply has a long memory, and sometimes remembrance takes root. A beautiful thing may still carry the colors of an old warning.
Scholars have argued for centuries over whether Torrentblossoms predict storms, create them, or merely give weather somewhere to become visible.
The flowers, naturally, have declined to clarify.
What is known is that once a Torrentblossom begins pouring, it does not believe in moderation.
The Six Torrentblossoms
Sableanche
Some winter storms erase the world beneath white. Sableanche remembers another kind. Its blizzards descend dark as soot, falling with the density of rain until the paths disappear beneath impossible black drifts. When the first dark flakes begin to fall, even creatures accustomed to Faewilde weather seek shelter.
Mailfront
There are storm fronts that roll across the Faewilde sounding strangely heavier than thunder. Mailfront brings rain that seems to have armored itself before falling, each torrent carrying the cold gleam of a storm dressed for battle. No one knows precisely what the weather expects to fight.
Inkflood
Inkflood arrives when rain forgets transparency. The heavens darken, the first drops strike black, and soon entire hollows appear to have been drawn over in wet ink. The water clears eventually. Usually.
Bloomonsoon
Bloomonsoon belongs to the breathless end of a dry summer day, when dust hangs in the heat and the sky slowly bruises overhead. Then come the enormous warm drops, sparse for only a moment before the whole storm collapses at once. The earth drinks greedily. Bloomonsoon simply keeps pouring.
Wastempest
Wastempest bears the warning-colors of storms remembered from the poisoned histories of the Sios: strange greens, metallic rainbows, and the oily brilliance of water touched by things water was never meant to carry. Today's blossoms bear no such poison. They are remembrance made beautiful, because the Faewilde knows that forgetting a ruined world is one way to ruin another.
Luridrench
There are colors, and then there are colors that have spent too long in the Faewilde. Luridrench arrives when the sky becomes impossibly saturated and every facet of the storm seems determined to announce itself. Its downpours are brilliant beyond good sense, as though color itself has accumulated overhead until gravity finally wins.
Some storms begin as flowers.
Care Note:
Put your Torrentblossoms on last, after perfume, hairspray, setting spray, sunscreen, and other cosmetics have been applied and fully dried; after wear, store them hanging or laid flat to help keep the cascading chains from tangling.
