There are storms in the Faewilde that arrive politely, tapping rain against leaves and sending sensible creatures beneath sensible mushrooms.

The Bloomdeluge is not one of them.

It begins when the clouds grow so heavy that the flowers below begin answering them. Bells turn their faces toward the darkening sky. Petals tremble. Then somewhere overhead, something breaks.

Rain comes down in silver and gold.

The Bloomdeluge pours through the wilds in glittering curtains, drowning paths, rattling branches, and turning every hollow into a temporary river. Yet wherever the storm is fiercest, strange flowers rise to meet it. Their blossoms catch the falling water and send it streaming downward again, as though the storm has grown roots and decided to bloom.

Three such blossoms have been gathered from three very different deluges.

Suntorrent grows during those deeply suspicious storms in which the sky refuses to stop shining. Its green bloom spills a golden cascade beneath it, bright enough to look almost cheerful until the rain becomes impossible to see through. The fae insist this is perfectly normal weather. The frogs disagree.

Cloudrend belongs to the storms that split an already-darkened sky. Blue flashes gather above its pale bloom while a straight silver torrent falls beneath it, severe and uninterrupted. Faewilde travelers say that when Cloudrend flowers appear, shelter should have been found several minutes ago.

Pluvielle appears after the sky has turned rosy and strange, usually just before someone makes the mistake of announcing that the worst has passed. Beneath its pink blossom, silver rain falls in a steepening cascade, delicate at first glance and considerably less delicate once you're standing underneath it.

The Bloomdeluge eventually passes. The flooded hollows drain. The paths reappear. The flowers, having caused absolutely none of this according to the flowers, remain.

Some flowers wait for rain. These bring their own.

Care Note:

Put your Bloomdeluge earrings on last, after perfume, hairspray, setting spray, and other cosmetics have fully dried. Store them hanging or laid flat to help keep the chain fringe smooth and tangle-free. If the chains do become tangled, gently separate them with your fingers rather than pulling.
