There are roads in the Faewilde that do not exist until after sunset.
They begin at the edges of familiar paths, usually where brambles have grown too thick or the moss has swallowed the last respectable signpost. Travelers who find them are advised to watch for the Jujubrights: tiny lanterns strung through the dark in colors far too cheerful for sensible navigation.
No one knows who lights them.
Some insist they belong to wandering confectioners who travel only at night, trading sugared fruit and impossible candies from carts that leave no wheel tracks. Others claim the lights grow wild, ripening along forgotten paths before dropping into the hands of anyone foolish enough to follow them. Aranbrid's oldest notes are less helpful still: "They appear wherever the road has decided it would like company."
By daylight, Jujubrights keep their secrets tucked behind bright little panes. But once darkness settles, their stored light begins to stir, and the lanterns wake again: pale, strange, and stubbornly luminous.
The Faewilde has never confirmed whether following them is safe.
It has only confirmed that people keep doing it.
