There is a place in the old wood where the roots learned how to remember.
Long ago, a flower-fairy danced there at dusk, turning between rose, thorn, and leaf while the last gold of the sun slipped beneath the trees. She did not know she was being watched. Not by hunters. Not by fae. By the wood itself, ancient and half-dreaming, stirred from its slow silence by the joy of something so small moving without fear.
So the roots did what roots do best. They held on.
They gilded the moment in tiger’s eye, warm gold and shadow-brown gleaming like sunlight buried under bark. Purple aventurine gathered around it in twilight hush, and dark plum flashes slipped between the stones like petals seen after sunset. Copper curled at the edges, not as a cage, but as a frame: an old woodland reliquary for a dance the seasons were not allowed to take.
The fairy remains there still, cream-bright against black, forever mid-frolic among her flowers. Not trapped. Treasured. Kept where the brambles cannot bruise her and time must pass around her gently.
Some dreams fade when morning finds them. Others are rooted too deeply to wake.
For the moment the woods loved too much to let go. ✨
