There are passages between the Faewilde and the Síos that refuse to remain in one place. Paths bend away from familiar landmarks, doors open where there were no walls, and a crossing found at dusk may be gone before moonrise. Most creatures avoid these borders.
A Ravenant does not.
These rare ravens carry messages between the Faewilde and the Síos, entrusted with words that cannot safely travel by ordinary roads. They bear no letters and require no map. Instead, they follow the white roses that grow along the oldest boundaries between the realms.
The roses are compasses, though not in any sense understood by ordinary travelers. Their petals turn toward passages invisible to other eyes, shifting as old crossings close and new ones briefly open. A Ravenant can read every subtle tilt and unfurling, following the flowers through places where north, south, distance, and direction have ceased to mean very much at all. In anyone else's hands, the same roses point nowhere.
Before a crossing, other ravens gather around the chosen messenger. They face inward and wait, watching the flowers for signs they themselves cannot interpret. They will accompany a Ravenant as far as the boundary, but never beyond it. What waits on the other side belongs to the messenger alone.
No one knows who first taught the Ravenants to read the roses, nor whether the birds learned it from the Faewilde or from something within the Síos. The ravens have never offered an explanation.

Put Ravenant on last so its freely moving raven charms and raised roses do not catch on hair, clothing, or sprays, then store it flat or hanging freely after wear so the flock cannot twist, snag, or tangle around the strand.
