In the Faewilde, an Amorcrest is what happens when several young love fairies finally manage to get themselves properly airborne at the same time.

Their hearts have already been full of magic for some while by then. Their wings, having spent an embarrassing period lagging behind, are only just beginning to catch up. A single fledgling in this stage is sometimes called a Blushplume—all oversized heart, fledgling feather, and deeply questionable aerodynamics. But when several of them rise together, something stranger happens.

The excess magic in their hearts spills outward as they fly, catching along their new feathers and gathering between them in bright flashes of flight-spark. From below, the little flock seems to become one moving shape: rose-pink hearts drifting through bands of iridescent winglight, with pale spectral glimmers suspended in the spaces between. Faewilde naturalists gave the phenomenon its name because the formation seems to crest and reform as the fledglings wobble, correct themselves, and attempt to maintain something resembling dignity.

The first Amorcrest of the season is often taken as proof that spring has truly reached the upper branches. Whether the formation requires three, five, or seven fledglings to qualify remains the subject of an absurdly serious scholarly dispute, though everyone agrees on one point: whatever their number, they are considerably more impressive once viewed from a safe distance below.
