Some windows in the Faewilde do not look out onto the same place twice.

One evening, they may show a mossy lane. The next, a moonlit roof. On certain nights, when the stars hang low enough to tempt small paws, a midnight cat appears in the frame and pretends it has been there all along.

That cat is said to be Windowwhisker.

No one knows whether it watches the stars, guards the room behind the glass, or waits for someone particular to pass beneath the sill. The frogs have tried asking, but cats are not famous for answering official inquiries.

Above the little window hangs a warm, filigree-style bead, like a lantern glowing softly over the frame. Below it, the midnight cat sits among tiny green stars, curled tail neat and patient, as if the night itself has become a quiet place to perch.
