He loved one for her thorns.
The first time Thornamour met her, he forgot entirely what he had come to the garden to do. Here, at last, was someone who understood that being beautiful and being armed were not mutually exclusive. She had thorns. He had a stinger. The resemblance seemed to him less like coincidence and more like destiny.
The rose was somewhat less convinced.
Still, he returned the next morning. And the morning after that. He brought pollen. He chased aphids away. Once, rather unwisely, he attempted to demonstrate his stinger. The rose eventually stopped pointing out that hers were considerably larger.
No one knows precisely when she began waiting for him.
Their courtship remains a thorny affair, but neither of them would have it any other way.
Some romances come with a point.
