Long ago, they kept watch over the passages where grief crossed into the Faewilde. They gathered every tear that fell there, believing even sorrow deserved to be witnessed. But too many travelers arrived carrying wounds made deliberately, and too many returned by the same paths with fresh ones.
So the watchers changed their craft.
Now each Fanglacrima catches a tear before it reaches the ground and holds it beneath an unblinking glass eye. There, grief is compressed until it loses its softness. It lengthens, hardens, and takes an edge, becoming a lance, knife, sword, or dueling blade shaped by the nature of the wound that summoned it.
Spectralance carries a weapon of refracted light. Blushbowie hides its edge beneath a tender pink gleam. Rougespadroon answers blood with scarlet steel, while Blindague keeps its amber blade veiled until the moment of consequence. Sunsword bears the brightest fang of all, forged from the kind of grief that refuses to remain in darkness.
The Fanglacrimae do not avenge every sorrow. They simply ensure that none remains defenseless.
Some tears fall. Others take a point.
