The Cryptshards | Gothic Skull, Cross & Faceted Glass Drop Earrings

There are places where the dead are buried, and there are places where they are kept.

The Cryptshards are said to come from the latter.

Old crypt-keepers once hung small faceted stones beneath the markers of the departed, believing the glass would collect whatever lingered after a name had been carved and a door sealed shut. Most remained clear. Some darkened. A very few took on color, and those were never removed without reason.

Cryptessa is the shard of the ossuary. Beneath twin antique-bronze skulls hangs a black faceted drop, dark enough to seem less reflective than watchful. It was said that paired skulls marked those who had sworn to remain together even after burial, and the shard below them kept account of anyone foolish enough to disturb that promise.

Giltgotha belongs to the sealed chapel. A golden cross rests above another black shard, a relic of the little sanctuaries built deep below old cities where candles were left burning long after the people who lit them were gone. Its glass was believed to absorb every final prayer spoken beneath the earth, becoming darker with each one until even candlelight could no longer pass through it.

Gravemora comes from graves that refused to stay barren. Its gilded skull hangs over vivid green glass, the color of moss reclaiming stone, roots threading between bones, and new leaves rising through soil enriched by what came before. Grave-tenders considered such shards an omen neither good nor ill. They simply meant that death had finished with something and the earth had begun using it again.

The pointed drops beneath each relic were not sharpened into shape by hand, according to the old stories. They grew that way naturally. Crypt-keepers called them warning points, because anything capable of preserving a memory ought to have some means of defending it.

Three shards remain in this little collection: one for what refuses to be separated, one for what refuses to be forgotten, and one for what refuses to stay dead.

Relics remember what graves cannot.

Keep dry and avoid perfume, lotions, and sprays directly on the earrings, as moisture and chemicals can dull the faceted glass and plated metal finishes; wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear (a polishing cloth is included with every purchase).
