There is a country in the western Faewilde where dusk does not fall all at once.
Instead, the sunlight gathers low among the grasses and waits there, turning every blade to gold. Lions once kept that country, though they were not ordinary beasts. Each carried a small sun behind its ribs, and when one roared, the horizon brightened in answer.
The greatest among them was called Sunpride.
She wore no crown. The old trees bent toward her anyway.
It was said that Sunpride guarded the last road of summer, where wandering stars descended to rest before winter carried them elsewhere. At the end of each season, she walked the road alone, gathering every ember of daylight that had fallen from the sky. Natural citrine held the clearest pieces, pale gold and clouded honey rather than the harsh brightness of forged treasure. Sunstone carried the warmth left behind in the earth. Carnelian kept the deeper orange of late afternoon, while garnet preserved the red that appears only when daylight is nearly gone.
The smaller garnets along the strand were known as courage-seeds. Each was placed where the road narrowed, marking the points at which Sunpride had continued forward despite having no certainty that the sun would rise again. Leo keepers later enlarged those stones, believing courage should never be mistaken for decoration.
At the center waits the silver lion, carrying a red star between its shoulders. Some say the star is a wound. Others say it is the first spark of the next sunrise. Sunpride never explained the difference.
When winter finally came for her country, the grasses bowed beneath frost and the old trees closed their eyes. Sunpride stood at the final hill and opened the hidden sun within her chest. Its light traveled beneath the frozen ground, carrying warmth to every sleeping root until spring could find its way home.
The lion vanished before morning.
The road still glows at dusk.
Sunshine, with claws.
Care Notes:
Keep dry—natural citrine, carnelian, sunstone and garnet can dull with prolonged exposure to water, while the silver-toned lion and metal findings may tarnish with moisture, perfume or chemicals; wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear and store flat (don’t worry, we’ll send a polishing cloth along!).
