The first Reliqurose was found wrapped in cloth beneath the remains of a small shrine near one of the older Faewilde crossings.
Unfortunately, no one recorded what the shrine was for.
The object itself offered few answers. Its elaborate heart suggested devotion, while its darkened surface suggested mourning. Traces of rose color remained across the ornament, and small drops of red and black glass hung beneath it. This prompted an early theory that it commemorated a lover who had died. A second scholar argued just as confidently that it marked the death of love itself. A third noted that neither explanation accounted for the pale drops suspended at the center and was subsequently excluded from several very tedious arguments.
Faewilde records are no more helpful. Similar ornaments appear beside references to promises, remembrance, separation and something translated variously as binding, keeping or refusing to release. Whether these describe marriage rites, funerary customs, broken vows or an observance encompassing all of them is unknown. There is some evidence that the Faewilde may not have considered those distinctions particularly important.
The surviving Reliqurose follows the old arrangement: an ornate heart darkened beneath a weathered rose-colored surface, with a pale glass drop held at its center. Below hang five faceted drops in black, red and faint blush, the colors arranged with a formality that suggests their placement once meant something.
Perhaps it did.
The old accounts agree on only one point: a Reliqurose was never given casually.
They neglect to say whether receiving one was a blessing.
For love, for mourning, or whatever lies between.
Care Note:
Keep dry and away from perfume, alcohol and harsh chemicals to protect the hand-painted, UV-resin-sealed finish and glass beads; avoid scratching or bending the coated finding, and wipe gently after wear with the polishing cloth we'll provide with your item.
