Parcelous | Gothic Heart & Oversized Bow Dangle Earrings

The Parcelous are not gifts.

There are things in the Faewilde that cannot be destroyed, buried, banished, or politely returned to wherever they came from. Those things are bound instead. Hearts, ribbons, bows, and glittering seals are arranged around them until whatever lies within can no longer escape.

Why the bindings resemble gift wrapping is disputed. Some maintain that beauty strengthens the enchantment. Others suspect the first fairy to devise the method simply had an appalling sense of humor. Whatever the reason, no two Parcelous are quite alike. Their bindings take their shape from what they contain, and their names record what little is considered safe to know about the contents.

Radiasnare holds something radiant enough that its shifting color still escapes around the bindings. Lavender and clear hearts sit above an enormous oil-slick bow, while dark, iridescent drops carry stray flashes of violet, green, blue, and rose below. Precisely what was snared has been omitted from the record.

Boundrouge restrains something red beneath a glossy black heart and black bow, with translucent pink, crimson, wine-dark, and black drops gathering below. Unfortunately, surviving notes do not specify whether rouge describes the contained thing's color, temperament, appetite, or some combination thereof. No one has volunteered to amend the entry.

Devoidseal presented a more difficult problem. A black heart rests above a clear bow, beneath which black, white, clear, and smoky drops remain suspended. The seal does not appear to contain an object at all, but an absence, one judged sufficiently troublesome that measures were taken to prevent it from spreading.

The droplets occasionally found hanging beneath a Parcelous are not, according to official records, evidence that containment is failing. They are also not discussed. Should you discover a beautifully wrapped parcel in the Faewilde and cannot remember anyone giving it to you, leave it beautifully wrapped.

Not every bow should be untied.
