There are boundaries in the Faewilde that are marked by ribbons, others by stones, and a handful by signs sensible travelers have learned not to read aloud. Palisadae belongs to an older tradition.

Long before anyone bothered agreeing where one territory ended and another began, some places defended themselves. Along certain forgotten paths, rows of blackened stakes were said to rise from the earth when unwanted footsteps drew near, forming elegant barriers whose curling upperwork seemed far too ornamental for something so thoroughly committed to keeping visitors out. Travelers called them palisades. The Faewilde, predictably, improved upon the idea.

Palisadae echoes those old defenses in dark gunmetal scrollwork and a regiment of pointed drops suspended in an even row beneath it. Between the stakes hang faceted glass teardrops coated in a shifting electroplated finish, their color refusing to settle into any single answer. Plum surfaces turn bronze, black slips briefly into blue-green, and unexpected flashes appear when the light catches an edge. A larger faceted bead above the centerpiece carries the same elusive metallic shimmer, as though a fragment of twilight had been hammered into glass.

Whether it once guarded anything worth finding has been forgotten. The spikes remain.

Some invitations are best understood as warnings.

Keep dry and avoid perfume, lotions, alcohol, and abrasive polishing, as the electroplated glass and gunmetal-toned finishes can dull or wear with chemicals and friction; gently wipe after wear with the polishing cloth we’ll provide and store where the hanging spikes cannot be crushed or scratched.
