There are lessons in the Faewilde that are not taught by candlelight because the candles keep leaving.

Gloometry comes from one of those classrooms: a high, narrow chamber where the walls lean slightly inward, the chalkboard writes back, and every triangle drawn after midnight begins behaving as though it knows something.

The black stone cabochons sit inside bronze-toned triangular frames like sealed little moons, polished smooth and dark enough to hold a reflection without giving much back. Above them, faceted black beads mark the hanging line like a pair of tiny eclipse markers, keeping the whole structure balanced between geometry and omen.

No one agrees on what Gloometry measures. Angles of shadow, perhaps. The distance between a question and a bad idea. The precise point where curiosity becomes a doorway. The frogs claim it is basic arithmetic, but the frogs also count “ominous” as a number.

Whatever the formula, the answer is almost certainly watching.
