Crows have always understood that value is a matter of discernment.

Corvacache belongs to one that has spent years perfecting hers. Somewhere, hidden high above any path sensible creatures use, is a nest containing precisely the sort of treasure other folk overlook: a bright button, a bit of chain, perhaps something borrowed without the tedious formality of permission. And leaves. Golden ones, especially. She has an eye for those.

These appear to be among her better finds.

Broad black feathers hang beneath round, intricately pierced gold-tone posts, dark enough to conceal whatever else may have been tucked away with them. In front, several lengths of fine gleaming chain carry slender polished bars and little openwork leaves, each dangling independently as though gathered at different times and added to the collection only after careful inspection. The gold foliage scatters across the black feathers rather than forming any orderly arrangement because a cache is not an exhibit, and its curator sees no reason to explain herself.

No one knows where the leaves came from. They may have fallen from some gilded tree beyond the familiar paths, been traded for something equally useless and precious, or simply caught the attention of a crow who decided immediately and irrevocably that they belonged to her.

What matters is that she kept them.

Not everything that glitters is lost. Some of it has simply been claimed.

Keep Corvacache dry and away from perfume, hairspray, makeup, oils, heat, and crushing pressure; store the earrings hanging freely or laid flat with plenty of room around the feathers, gently smooth any ruffling in the natural direction with clean dry fingers rather than brushing or pulling, and wipe only the metalwork with the polishing cloth we’ll provide.
