No one knows whether the two watchers were born mismatched or merely became that way after crossing paths.

The oldest account claims they met beside a flooded path at twilight, each carrying a color the other had never seen. One held the green of moss beneath clear water; the other kept the violet found between dusk and night. They stared at one another for so long that the colors loosened, drifted upward, and settled into the wrong places.

Neither seemed distressed.

Now known as Chromacrossed, the pair travels together with exchanged glimmers suspended above their great glass eyes. The green watcher carries a lavender cube, while the violet watcher bears a bright green one, each preserving the piece of the other that light rearranged.

Some say they correct colors that have grown too certain of themselves. Others believe they simply enjoy leaving the world slightly less matched than they found it.

Some colors only find themselves after getting lost. ✨
