There are certain jobs in the Faewilde for which enthusiasm is considered a disadvantage.

Catatonic was appointed to one of them.

Long ago, when an abandoned doorway began appearing in different parts of the Faewilde without ever opening, a pair of official observers was assigned to watch it. The instructions were simple: note when it appeared, record anything unusual, and under no circumstances blink at the same time. The observers took their work very seriously. Possibly too seriously.

Days became weeks. Weeks became years. The doorway wandered through forests, gardens, ruins, kitchens, one rather inconvenient wedding, and eventually disappeared altogether. Nobody remembered to dismiss the observers.

So they kept watching.

Their old brass fittings have dulled with time, their brown lenses remain perfectly focused, and the larger feline eyes below continue their patient surveillance with the expression of creatures who have witnessed several centuries of nonsense and found none of it particularly impressive. The dark faceted centers were added later by someone who believed the apparatus needed “more depth,” a phrase preserved in the maintenance records without explanation.

No one knows what Catatonic is watching now.

Whatever it is, it appears to be taking a very long time.

Keep the glass eye cabochons, faceted glass centers, and antique-bronze findings dry and avoid drops or hard knocks, as an impact can jar the eye cabs loose from their settings or chip the glass; after wear, tuck Catatonic somewhere padded and wipe the metal gently with a soft cloth (a polishing cloth will be provided with your item).
