✨The Faewilde Chronicles: Glimmerhoard✨
Share
Gold will fade, and fire will fall,
But roots remember, and leaves keep all.
Seek the hoard where green things grow,
And find the spark the wyrms still know.
Few mortals realize that dragons are not all alike. Some crave flame and ruin, others covet wealth. And a rare few—so rare their names are carried only in whispers—bend their hungers toward stranger treasures.
The Glimmerhoard Dragon is one such wyrm.
Long ago, when most dragons fled beyond the mountain peaks at the rise of the Fair Folk, this one turned instead to the deep heart of the Faewilde. There it found a wealth that no gold could match: the endless green of living things. It began to gather gems of mossy aventurine, turquoise stones veined like rivers, and moonlit rocks that seemed to breathe with hidden fire. Each piece was not simply a stone but a pulse of the earth itself, brimming with change and growth. To the dragon, this was treasure greater than crowns or coin—wealth that endured and renewed itself.
But dragons are creatures of memory as well as desire, and so it kept one reminder of its kind’s first love. Nestled among the forest-hued stones lay a single golden bead, bright and gleaming even in shadow. Some say it was carried as a jest, proof that even a wyrm can laugh at its own nature. Others claim it was kept for sentiment, the way a warrior keeps one sword after retiring. Whatever the reason, the bead remained, a spark of fire hidden in a hoard grown green.
The Fair Folk soon learned that the Glimmerhoard Dragon was not to be crossed lightly. Its hoard was not buried in caverns, but woven through glades and forest floors. Leaves would tremble where none walked. Mosses gleamed with light no lantern cast. Those who sought to pluck its treasures found themselves lost, turned back again and again by spiraling paths and watchful eyes. Yet for those favored by fate—or perhaps by the dragon itself—a fragment of that living wealth might surface, carried into the mortal realm.
The necklace known as Glimmerhoard is said to be one such fragment: aventurine and African turquoise beads strung together like gems pulled straight from a wyrm’s forested trove, guarded still by the image of the dragon itself. At its center gleams a single golden bead, a reminder of the treasure dragons once claimed, and the spark of fire they never fully abandon.
To wear Glimmerhoard is to hold both sides of that paradox: the wild green of the Faewilde and the glitter of ancient hoards. It is wealth that grows, gleams, and guards. A living treasure, bound in story, waiting for the one bold enough to claim it.
